Department of Code Enforcement

The function of this department is to enforce the City of Cahokia Heights Municipal Code, particularly as it relates to land use and property maintenance. Good code enforcement can improve the quality of our neighborhoods, protect property values and the environment and keep the City of Cahokia Heights a safe and desirable community. Specifically, the Code Enforcement Officer concentrates on the investigation and abatement of complaints involving land use, housing conditions, abandoned vehicles, signs, fences, and general public nuisances.

Mission Statement

The purpose of the Code Enforcement Department is to promote, protect, and improve the safety, health, and welfare of our Village.

The city’s Code Enforcement staff responds to potential violations regarding Municipal Codes, which includes property maintenance, zoning regulations, permitting, Floodplain concerns, Building Regulations, and health code issues.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Prior to any work being started, all companies must submit to the Mayor Plans, drawings and specifications showing and displaying the work proposed.
  2. Must give a $500.00 deposit to the Clerk’s office.
  3. Each applicant must file a $10,000.00 dollars bond with surety approved by the Mayor.
  4. Each applicant must carry adequate liability and property damage insurance. Limits of liability insurance shall be at least 1,000,000.00.
  5. There is $100.00 application fee which must be submitted with this application.
  6. Proof of adequate liability/property Damage insurance.
